Intune or Jamf for Mac Management Choosing by Use Case and Scale
Choose Mac management through a tested workload matrix rather than fleet size alone.

Start with the work the Macs must support
The useful management question is whether the platform can enforce your required controls while giving users a workable experience. Microsoft Intune and Jamf are both options to evaluate, but fleet size alone does not settle the decision. A small specialist team may need deeper Apple workflows than a much larger fleet with standard requirements.

The Microsoft-centered option
Intune can fit an organization that already operates Microsoft endpoint management and wants to reuse its administration and compliance processes. Microsoft documents macOS enrollment and management guidance. Confirm your licensed capabilities and test the exact macOS versions, applications, authentication requirements, and update workflows involved. Existing Microsoft licensing does not automatically mean every required capability is included.
Evaluate Apple-focused requirements explicitly
Include enrollment, FileVault recovery, application packaging, scripting, user self-service, operating-system updates, and support for new Apple releases in a comparison matrix. Ask each vendor to demonstrate the required workflows on representative devices. Avoid treating a general reputation for Apple specialization as proof that a particular feature or release is supported.
A bounded pilot
Test a new device, an existing device, an offline user, a failed update, and recovery after an employee leaves. Have the service desk carry out the procedures rather than relying only on the implementation team. Record the exceptions and the work required to maintain them.
Consolidation still has a cost
A second platform adds licensing, integration, and operational responsibilities. A single platform can also add work if it cannot deliver a required workflow directly. Compare the full operating cost and the supported compliance integration before deciding. Use current vendor documentation for availability and prerequisites.
